M.E.S.A. Initiative: Instruction, Ideas and Inspiration |
|
We've all heard the disconcerting news: the population is aging and the supply of physicians serving our senior population is not growing proportionately. A dire shortfall of primary care physicians, especially in the rural areas of Colorado, is anticipated and we're beginning to feel the impact even now.
Through the Colorado M.E.S.A. Initiative, we offer some fresh ideas, advice and, yes--even inspiration--for providing healthcare to senior patients. We intend to create a supportive community of healthcare providers who can collaborate, support one another, and share ideas to improve their practices and remind one another why they chose to practice medicine in the first place.
The Colorado M.E.S.A. Initiative - Medicare Experts/Senior Access, is a collaborative effort between Senior Care of Colorado, PC, and the Alzheimer's Association Colorado Chapter funded by a grant from the Colorado Health Foundation.
Our goals are to:
-
Appropriately improve the financial incentives for physicians that serve Medicare patients.
-
Increase the confidence of medical providers treating seniors with Alzheimer's and related dementia, and co-existing chronic conditions.
-
Provide resources and strengthen support networks and assistance for those confronted with Alzheimer's or other types of dementia.
Our expected outcomes are to:
-
Expand patient access to the Medicare program, in both rural and urban settings, by increasing the willingness of physicians to serve Medicare patients.
-
Improve the health of Colorado seniors.
Our approach is to identify and establish relationships with primary care and other physicians who are currently providing medical care to senior patients, and to help those providers become more effective and successful, both clinically and financially, in their practices. |
